A caterpillar shaped like bird poop --- Very clever
While playing around with a macro lens I came across this caterpillar that shared a striking resemblance to a pile of bird poop. Had I not notice it move I would have never discovered this odd little creature chewing away at citrus tree leaves. Once it knew the gig was up, it froze and pretended to be what it was colored like. I wasn't having any of it and continued to click a few photos.
Its really a clever technique to avoid predators such as birds and any other creature that would tend to avoid eating its own excrement. I could imagine what kind of reactions I would get if I was shaped like a giant turd and went out in public. I am guessing I would never have to wait in line as they would tend to clear as I approached.
I have to hand it to this clever creature for taking on a form that helps to ensure a longer life.
