Kumara Pokuna, A royal bath
This royal bath now known as the Kamara Pokuna, must be the pond name of Sita Pokkharani referred to in the Mahavamsa as built by King Parakramababu the Great(1153 - 1186 A.D ). This area lying outside the citadel may have belonged to king Parakramababu's royal park named Nandal.a Uyana. The pond elegantly built with cruciformed Ground plan designed in such manner as to get water from the adjacent watercourse and is also provided with outlet to drain of the used water. The pavilion near the pond must have served as a changing room.
