The Blue Mountains Botanic Gardens at Mt Tomah is the only botanic garden in the world located within a World Heritage Area. Covering 252 hectares, with 28 hectares open to the public, the garden features 21,000 cool climate plants and 900 different species. 

The Botanic Garden is open every day except Christmas Day. Opening hours are 9.00 am - 5.30 pm Monday - Friday and 9.30 am - 5.30 pm Saturday, Sunday and public holidays. If you go during the winter months, rug up as it can get quite chilly in the Blue Mountains.In fact, it can be rather chilly in summer too. We went in January in the middle of the Aussie summer and a jacket certainly didn't go astray.

Best of all, entry is free! 

Drop by the nearby village of Mt Victoria for a drink and meal at the historic Imperial Hotel. Check to make sure it's open first as it's operating on reduced hours these days.
