Allamanda cathartica,commonly known as the golden trumpet or yellow allamanda,is a species of flowering plant in the Apocynaceae family. It is native to Central and South America,but it is widely cultivated as an ornamental plant in tropical and subtropical regions worldwide.The plant is a woody vine that can grow up to 5 meters in length. It has glossy, dark green leaves and produces large, showy yellow flowers that are trumpet-shaped and about 8 to 12 centimeters in diameter.The flowers are highly fragrant and bloom from summer to fall.All parts of the plant,including the sap,are poisonous if ingested. However,it has been used in traditional medicine for its purported anti-inflammatory, antitumor, and antipyretic properties.It is also used in some cultures for its aphrodisiac effects.In cultivation,Allamanda cathartica is generally grown in full sun or partial shade and well-drained soil. It can be propagated by cuttings or by layering. It is commonly used as a hedge or as an accent plant in gardens and landscapes.
