The monastery Spaso-Kamenny on the island Stone
The monastery Spaso-Kamenny located on the island Stone that on Kubenskoye's lake in the Vologda region, is considered the first stone temple in the north of Russia and one of the first in this region in general.
Date of foundation of the monastery is considered on August 19, 1260.
On a legend, islands the prince Gleb Vasilkovich from the Belozersky principality was cast ashore. Praying to God, he found rescue and ordered to build on the island the temple in gratitude for the rescue. From here and the name of the monastery – the island Stone rescued Gleb.
Lake Kubena on which there is an island monastery Saviour Stone is located in 40-50 km from Vologda in the direction of the route to Medvezhjegorsk. It is possible to get directly on the island in the summer only on water. In the winter daredevils go on ice, but extremely we do not recommend to do it if there are no 100% of confidence in the uniform thickness of ice on all way.
