Baikal ice
The beginning of freezing in the shallow bays of the Maloye More Strait falls on the month of November, when the first frosts begin. The main part of the lake is covered with ice around the end of December - early January, each year in different ways. First the northern regions are frozen, and in two or three weeks it is already rising south. Olkhon Island and the Maloye More River are located approximately in the middle of Lake Baikal, and, as a rule, you can walk on the ice already in early January and even drive cars. This area is notable for the fact that there is little precipitation, a lot of sun that evaporates snow, and often there are strong winds that blow it off the ice surface. Therefore, and also due to good transport accessibility and abundance of tourist centers, this is the best area of Lake Baikal for shooting pure ice. It is important to have time to arrive here before it is carried by snow and scratched by winds. If you are lucky, what you see will not leave you indifferent!
