Abandoned railway equipment

in #photography7 years ago (edited)

It has always amazed me to see something that once had value to somebody, suddenly sitting idle, and of no real use anymore, allowed to decay to the point of most likely never being used again.

Houses, cars, factories, farm machinery etc.

While out on a walk recently I decided to take a few photos of some abandoned railway equipment that has been sitting there for God only knows how long.

Train car axles

How many tons of steel is this sitting here?

Wooden cart

I'm guessing this was used for repairs and maitinence of the railways it's too small to transport goods of any sort.

Excavator?

At first glance it looks like an excavator made for rail travel, but is outfitted with some type of pincher claw that appeared to be for placing or grabbing sections of railing.

I will not even attempt a guess at what this is or what it was used for. It looks like a nightmare of hydraulic hoses manifolds, and apparently was a very loud piece of machinery given the "hearing protection required" placard on the side of it.

Hope you enjoyed these snapshots!

Very cool post, I love photographing old barns and equipment. They have the greatest texture that only comes with age. Upvoted and followed to see more.
