My first drone flight at Marina Barrage, Singapore

We finally found the chance to take Timmy for a flight over Marina Barrage, Singapore. Managed to take a few photos before the afternoon sun came out from behind the clouds.

I would like to share some of photos we took. These photos are post-edited using photoshop. This is my first time doing editing using photoshop as well. Some of the colours might look unreal. Sorry for that!

The roof of Marina Barrage is well known and popular for picnics and kite flying. Drones can be flown there as well.

Marina Barrage brings about three benefits: a new source of water supply, flood control and a lifestyle attraction.

Marina Barrage is a dam built across the 350-metre wide Marina Channel to keep out seawater, creating the 15th reservoir in downtown Singapore.

Marina Barrage is part of a comprehensive flood control scheme to alleviate flooding in the low-lying areas in the city such as Chinatown, Boat Quay, Jalan Besar and Geylang. During heavy rain, the series of nine crest gates at the dam are activated to release excess stormwater into the sea when the tide is low. In the case of high tide, giant pumps can drain excess stormwater into the sea.

Unaffected by tides, water level in Marina Reservoir is kept constant all year round. This is ideal for all kinds of recreational activities such as boating, kayaking and dragonboating.

Singapore does not have many areas where you can fly a drone. If you would like to visit Marina Barrage, here are some useful information.

How to get there

1. Travel by Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), alight at 'Tanjong Pagar Station'.
2. Follow the signs to 'Exit I'. Go up to ground level via escalator or lift.
3. Walk to bus stop no. '03223 Intl Plaza' along Anson Road. The bus stop is approxmately 40metres from the MRT entrance we came out from.
4. Take bus 400 and alight 6 stops later at bus stop no. '03369 Marina Barrage'
5. Walk from the bus stop into Marina Barrage. Admission is free.

Recommended time to visit

Sunset(1700-1900hrs)
Hint: Avoid noon time as there is very little shade on the roof.

Recommended things to bring

Must have:

• Sun block and umbrella if you reach there at noon (we did not bring either and got burnt bad)
• Water for drinking (it will be hot)

Good to have:

• Sunglasses
• Camera/phone with camera
• Kites
• Drones
• Groundsheet (to sit on the grass)
