Elk are awesome. We used to hear them bugling when we were camping up along the Mogollon Rim and in the White Mountains of AZ.
Fun fact that surprises many - Arizona has one of the largest elk populations in the country. It's either 3rd or 4th, and has one of the premier trophy elk hunting locations. I haven't checked recently, but they used to only sell 100 tags for the Hannagan Meadow bull hunt. It's some amazing country.
It's surprising to find out that Arizona has so many elk, would have thought they would be mostly in the northern areas, thanks @anotherjoe!
