NO exaggeration when the butterfly is said to be a prima donna among other avertebrate animals. Its beautiful and attractive wings captivate many people. The arrangement of scales similar to the roof of the tile on the butterfly wings gives a pattern and color pattern, and this is the basis of naming this group of insects, namely Lepidoptera.  Indonesia was blessed with abundant butterflies. Of the estimated 17,500 species of butterflies in the world, no less than 1,600 species of which are spread in Indonesia.

The richness of this species is only unmatched by tropical countries in South America, such as Peru and Brazil which has about 3,000 species.  An overview of the diversity and richness of Indonesian butterfly species can be seen here. Butterfly specimens are well preserved in Entomology Laboratory, Zoology Field, Bogor Zoological Museum, and Biology Research Center of Indonesian Institute of Sciences.  Geographically supportive  Indonesia's geographical condition strongly supports the richness of the flora and fauna of the archipelago, with the influence of Asian elements in the west, the elements of Australia in the east, and the influence of both elements in the Wallacea region.  Of the approximately 1,600 species of butterflies, some are scattered throughout Indonesia, while others can only be found on certain islands.  As an archipelagic country, Indonesia has a unique in terms of the distribution of fauna, known as endemicity. A high degree of endemicity is evident in Indonesia's butterflies, which account for more than 35 percent of the world's number-one species.  Peru, Brazil and other countries in South America have only moderate levels of endemicity less than 10 percent of the total species. That is, the uniqueness of Indonesia's butterfly far exceeds any country in the world.  Sulawesi is the island that has the uniqueness of the highest butterfly in Indonesia. Of the 557 species present, 239 species (more than 40 percent) are the only species found in the region, for example Papilio blumei.  Butterflies are also used as a stunning metamorphosis symbol. In the changing phase of life (egg-caterpillar-adult butterfly), in fact many animals are also experiencing a similar metamorphosis process, such as mosquitoes, wasps, and beetles. However, because of the beauty of his adult form which is in sharp contrast to the pre-adult form, the butterflies are often highlighted. Thus, butterflies are often a source of inspiration and motivation for many people.
