Russian north. Journey

Russian north

Many people are looking for roads to the south, in warmth and comfort. And my roads are tangled and sometimes they lead to the light of a star in the night or to the northern lights, or maybe to a light bulb "Ilyich" on a pole, next to a concrete fence with the inscription "There's no future here". But that's what I'm sure about - it's that there is a future and that it will bring many more beautiful roads.

Recently I read one book by the famous modern writer Zakhar Prilepin. The novel is called "Abode". The actions take place on the Solovetsky Islands. I will not say that I liked the book, but rather the opposite, but the places in question, the north, the descriptions of the Solovetsky monastery - awoke again memories of my trip to the Russian north.

On the phrase "Russian North" consciousness responds with something like: "White Sea", "Arkhangelsk", "Severe Territory", "Moss", "Solovki", "Forest" ... Then the thought runs through some intricate paths in the distance and I can already see the huge stones of the walls of the Solovetsky Monastery. And next to them a monk sits in some futuristic slaps. It is these flip flops and modern-looking glasses that keep you on the surface of reality. Still a little - and it was possible to fall into the past, at the time when the young Mikhailo Lomonosov and his father sailed to the island.

Maybe my words will seem seditious, but not the Solovetsky Islands gave me a sense of the spirit of the north. Kiy Island touched my heart and burnt my soul with icy water. The rough eternal stones created by nature, pine, moss and endless water around. In this our trip to the sea was calm. Water is a mirror. In it - the heavens. We walked on a boat with a motor, plowing a perfectly flat field as a plow, creating two diverging furrows. Our sullen helmsman with weather-beaten and red from the constant summer sun face was swearing rich people from Moscow. He said that the sea is not forgiven any jokes and that just in case, he always has two motors in his boat. And about the calm, he also noticed that it happened more than once, in a quarter of an hour such weather turned into a storm.

This is just a beginning of my north story. Hope you'll like it and we'll be follow the story and me.

to be continued...
