In Belarus is very cold weather now. Birds do not all fly away in hot countries for the winter. Swans in Belarus overwinter in reservoirs. Swans get food in this weather hard. Therefore, people fed swans.

We have lots of swans here in Amsterdam too, as well as ducks, water hens, geese and seagulls. They all stick it out here though I have never seen the canals frozen, must be pretty rough then.
