En mi ultimo post prometi hablar sobre algunas de las maravillas que posee mi pais, y aqui esta el primero de una serie de post que espero me emocionada les guste, ya en otro post le contare un poco mas sobre mi para que me vayan conociendo un poco mejor :D

Hoy les quiero hablar del Salto Angel, una de la maravilla mas hermosa de mi pais en mi opinion, en lo personal no he tenido la oportunidad de viajar y verlo con mis propios ojos pero tengo fe en que algun dia lo hare :D

La cascada Salto Ángel se encuentra en el Parque Nacional de Canaima, declarado Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la Unesco en 1994. Un capricho de la naturaleza lleno de ríos, selvas tropicales y 115 tepuys, mesetas rocosas elevadas de origen precámbrico, con bordes casi geométricos cincelados por la erosión durante millones de años. Los geólogos coinciden en datar este lugar como anterior a la irrupción de la vida sobre el planeta, pero no hay mucha unanimidad acerca de quién descubrió el Salto Ángel.

The Salto Ángel waterfall is located in the Canaima National Park, declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 1994. A whim of nature full of rivers, rain forests and 115 tepuys, high rocky plateaus of Precambrian origin, with almost geometric edges Chiseled by erosion for millions of years. Geologists agree to date this place as prior to the emergence of life on the planet, but there is not much unanimity about who discovered Angel Falls.

La Montaña del Infierno | Hell Mountain

Esta enorme catarata siempre ha vivido envuelta en un halo de magia. Los indios pemones, nativos de la tierra y que en nuestros días compaginan sus tradiciones ancestrales con sus tareas como guías turísticos, ya la conocían antes del incidente aéreo de Jimmy Angel. La llamaron kerepakupai verá o kerepakupai merú, que significa “salto desde el lugar más profundo”, pero lo hicieron desde el terror. Porque el Auyantepuy, para ellos Montaña del Infierno, albergaba a los mawariton o “espíritus malignos”, y en especial a Tramán-Chita, el ser supremo del mal. Hoy sabemos que la rabia de esta catarata no se debe a ningún diablo sino a la fuerza del agua de las intensas lluvias tropicales que se concentran y descargan únicamente sobre el propio tepuy. Por eso no hay río propiamente dicho, sino riachuelos improvisados que serpentean sobre la planicie hasta confluir en la ladera. La lluvia que da vida al Salto Ángel puede también ser un estorbo para el viajero: a mayores precipitaciones, más posibilidades de toparse con nubes que imposibiliten totalmente su vista. Por el contrario, en la época seca (entre diciembre y marzo) el cielo suele estar raso aunque la catarata también cae más escuálida. La virulencia del torrente, unida a lo escarpado de las paredes del tepuy, dificulta el crecimiento de vida vegetal, así como las migraciones animales. De ahí que en la cima se hayan encontrado especies de flora y fauna endémica, como ciertas plantas carnívoras que solo habitan en las cimas de estas mesetas.

This huge waterfall has always lived surrounded by a halo of magic. The Pemon Indians, natives of the land and who nowadays combine their ancestral traditions with their duties as tour guides, already knew her before the Jimmy Angel air incident. They called it kerepakupai verse or kerepakupai merú, which means "jump from the deepest place", but they did it out of terror. Because the Auyantepuy, for them Hell Mountain, housed the Mawariton or "evil spirits", and especially Tramán-Chita, the supreme being of evil. Today we know that the rage of this waterfall is not due to any devil but to the force of the water from the intense tropical rains that concentrate and discharge only on the tepuy itself. That is why there is no river itself, but makeshift streams that meander over the plain until they converge on the slope. The rain that gives life to the Angel Falls can also be a hindrance for the traveler: the higher the rainfall, the more possibilities of encountering clouds that totally impede your view. On the contrary, in the dry season (between December and March) the sky is usually flat, although the waterfall also falls more squalid. The virulence of the torrent, together with the steepness of the walls of the tepui, hinders the growth of plant life, as well as animal migrations. Hence, endemic flora and fauna species have been found at the top, such as certain carnivorous plants that only inhabit the tops of these plateaus.

Aventura río arriba | Up river adventure

Acceder hasta Salto Ángel es toda una aventura, pues el acceso hasta el parque nacional solo es posible en avioneta y, según los caprichos de la meteorología, la lluvia y la niebla pueden convertir el vuelo en una azarosa travesía. Un baño en las frías aguas del lago Canaima, rodeadas de una tupida vegetación de árboles tropicales y palmeras, será un buen bautismo de emociones. Primero porque en el lago hay bastante corriente: el agua entra con fuerza por los saltos Hacha, Golondrina y Ucaima y sale por el Salto Ara, un desnivel por el que el río sigue su curso. Pero, además, las playas de arena blanquísima contrastan con las aguas rojizas y hasta llenas de espuma. No hay nada que temer: no es contaminación sino el efecto de los taninos y la saponina procedentes de la vegetación. En Canaima se puede contratar un vuelo de unos 45 minutos en avioneta para sobrevolar el Cañón del Diablo formado por las aguas del río Churún hasta el Salto Ángel. La opción más intensa implica remontar río arriba a bordo de una curiara (un tipo de canoa indígena con motor fuera borda) y culminar el trayecto con una caminata de una hora hasta el mirador frente al Salto Ángel.

Accessing Angel Falls is quite an adventure, since access to the national park is only possible by plane and, depending on the whims of the weather, rain and fog can turn the flight into a hazardous journey. A swim in the cold waters of Lake Canaima, surrounded by dense vegetation of tropical trees and palm trees, will be a good baptism of emotions. First, because there is quite a current in the lake: the water enters with force through the Hacha, Golondrina and Ucaima falls and leaves through the Ara Falls, a slope through which the river continues its course. But, in addition, the white sand beaches contrast with the reddish and even foamy waters. There is nothing to fear: it is not pollution but the effect of tannins and saponin from the vegetation. In Canaima you can hire a flight of about 45 minutes in a small plane to fly over the Devil's Canyon formed by the waters of the Churún river up to Angel Falls. The most intense option involves going upstream aboard a curiara (a type of indigenous canoe with an outboard motor) and ending the journey with an hour's walk to the viewpoint in front of Angel Falls.

A lo largo del camino, casi seguro nos visitará alguna lluvia caprichosa y podremos aspirar el aroma a selva mojada, descubrir cómo la falta de nutrientes del suelo lleva a los árboles a desplegar las raíces por la superficie en busca de materia orgánica en descomposición, contemplar el colorido plumaje de los guacamayos, sentirse a merced del río en los rápidos de Mayupa y escuchar el ensordecedor rugido de las cataratas que caen desde los tepuys. Porque, aunque la cascada Salto Ángel es la más famosa, a lo largo de todo el cortante del Auyantepuy manan magníficas caídas de agua –como el Churún-Merú– que se precipitan al vacío rodeadas de enigmáticas nubes de vapor. Una imagen fascinante que inspiró la escenografía de la película Avatar, de James Cameron, o incluso la cima donde se posaba la casa con globos del filme de animación de Disney Up.
