DEVELOPING A STRONG FOOD SAFETY CULTURE.
Threat of food adulteration have been long standing challenges in the country. Unsafe food poses a serious public health risk leading to an increased prevalence of food -borne diseases. Adulteration or the international addition of illegal substance is mostly due to unethical trade but also to a lack of knowledge.
Every year million of people suffer from food -borne illness, ranging from acute effects morbidity to life threatening diseases.
Food adulterated by chemicals heavy metals or radioactive substances may act as carcinogenic agents that mutate the cellular genome to malignancy.
