In 2012, Aceh became a different region with other provinces in Indonesia. Where the Governor of Aceh at that time, Abdullah Puteh declare the implementation of Islamic Shari'a.

The application of Islamic Sharia is due to Aceh as a special area, so it is expected to reduce the armed conflict that was raging at the time.
