For many years we have seen many portraits of the "Libertador", Simón Bolívar, however we do not stop to detail beyond that we recognize. We know that he is "El Libertador", the father of the country, among other names and just by seeing his face the whole school and history class comes to our mind. But what about his clothes? Why is that uniform so emblematic? In this opportunity we will talk about the flaming blue jacket that he wears and also a small tribute to him.
Believe it or not, by the daysof our "Libertador" we already talked about dress codes, this is just the description of the right attire according to the activity, location, weather and other aspects to take into account at the moment of dressing. Bolivar to be president of the Great Republic and to be in command of the troops in the South Campaign, delegates that responsibility for the currency in terms of uniforms to the vice president and in charge of the Executive Power: Francisco de Paula Santander. And this is how in 1826 the following regulation came out:
"... Having attributed the law of January 24 of this year to the executive power the arrangement of the foreign currency and uniform of the army and navy, preventing consequently to proceed to verify it in the most simple and economic way, and keeping in mind the statutes of the Organic law of the army in terms of the command classes that leaves established, and those in which it divides the different arms of the army, I have come to decree and decree the following regulation of foreign exchange and uniforms.
General Officers.
Art. 1º. The currency and uniforms of the general officers of the army shall not be differentiated according to the weapon to which they belonged, or belong, but according to the degrees recognized by law.
General of Division.
Art. 2º. Uniform. Blue turquoise jacket, red lining, lapel, collar, laces and scarlet pants, with gold embroidery, figuring bay leaves, skirt edges, purses, collar, lapel and laces, gold button; regular boot over trousers, black tie, gold-plated pointed hat with national rosette, and white or tricolor pen; girdle incarnated with gold tassels, gold epaulettes of thick cannelloni, with two silver stars on the blades; and sword. The same uniform and currencies will use the current generals in chief, with the only difference of carrying one more star in the blades of the epaulettes. "

It is also important to note that despite the fact that the "Libertador" jacket is immortalized by many artists, it is the Peruvian painter José Gil de Castro with the huge credit with greater credibility, he stood out for his incredible precision in the details of both accessories and faces in his work. And, that is why Bolívar sent a portrait of himself to General Sir. Robert Wilson, made by Gil de Castro with the following words:
"I take the liberty of sending to you a picture of me made in Lima with the greatest accuracy and likeness".

As part of my work this information was studied and taken into account a few days ago, for the realization of the 1/6 scale jacket that is shown below, which was the request of one of the figure collectors in my country, Venezuela , as a tribute to Bolívar, because he had realized that of all the pieces of clothing that one was missing, he had no words to show such carelessness.
Although it is not a true copy of the original design and the threads, more embroidery is not gold, I tried to take care of and maintain the brightness and grandeur that such a memorable piece inspires. It really was an honor and pleasure to have fulfilled this work, due to the passion I feel for my work and the historical importance of such a great outfit.
