Liberate due tartarughe marine
Release two sea turtles
Due esemplari di tartarughe caretta-caretta sono state liberate nella tarda mattinata di una splendida giornata d'autunno nelle acque antistanti la borgata marinara di Aspra.
Dopo essere state salvate dalla Guardia Costiera per avere ingerito materiale inquinante, le creature marine sono state curate presso l'Istituto Zooprofilattico della Sicilia e fortunatamente sono tornate nel loro ambiente naturale.
Per non lasciare passare inosservato l'avvenimento, l'IZS Sicilia, in collaborazione con il Rotary Club di Bagheria ha organizzato una manifestazione pubblica nel corso della quale sono state mostrate ai presenti prima l'esemplare più piccolo, che è stata chiamata Scheggia, e successivamente quella dalle dimensioni maggiori alla quale è stato dato il nome Sira.
Le tartarughe caretta-caretta appartengono ad una specie protetta che rischia l'estinzione a causa del persistente inquinamento dei mari.
L'iniziativa sarà stata sicuramente utile a sensibilizzare la popolazione ai temi ambientali ed al rispetto per la Natura. Il momento più entusiasmante è stato, ovviamente, osservare le tartarughe percorrere pochi metri di spiaggia ed inoltrarsi spontaneamente in mare davanti alle autorità locali, ad una folla di curiosi e a numerose scolaresche.

ENG - Release two sea turtles
Two specimens of caretta-caretta turtles were released in the late morning of a beautiful autumn day in the waters in front of the seaside village of Aspra. After being rescued by the Coast Guard for ingesting polluting material, the marine animals were treated at the Zooprophylactic Institute of Sicily and fortunately they returned to their natural environment. In order not to let the event go unnoticed, IZS Sicilia, in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Bagheria organized a public demonstration during which the smallest specimen named Scheggia was shown to those present before the one with the largest dimensions to which the name Sira has been given.
The caretta-caretta turtles belong to a protected species that risks extinction due to the persistent pollution of the seas.
The initiative will surely have been useful to sensitize the population to environmental issues and respect for Nature. The most exciting moment was, of course, to watch the turtles walk a few meters of the beach and spontaneously head out to sea in front of the local authorities, a crowd of onlookers and numerous school groups.
