Less than two years ago, in Palermo, I had the opportunity to see a talented musician "in attendance", on the occasion of the presentation of an original concert by the orchestra, made up of more than 100 cellists, created and directed by Giovanni Sollima and Enrico Melozzi.
The project had started casually from Rome, during the occupation of the Teatro Valle by the artists, then grew rapidly to reach a large audience through quality music. The technically excellent, although entirely informal executions also mediate social and humanitarian issues. During the concerts the 100Cellos, still active, offer a repertoire that ranges from various musical genres ranging from symphonic to pop through jazz. But, in September 2018 the musicians decided to dedicate three full days to the Sicilian city, improvising on the street, involving passers-by, playing along the streets of the Old Town and even inside the Bunker Room, using the narrative voice of the journalist Attilio Bolzoni and the photographic contribution provided by the images created by Letizia Battaglia. Inside the suggestive monumental complex of the Spasimo, the rehearsals open to the public took place, and the crowded Press Conference took place, presented by the organizers of the Amici della Musica Association and the city authorities. The two creators and guides of 100Cellos, Giovanni Sollima and Enrico Melozzi, aware that even music, like other forms of artistic expression, if it is devoid of a real "commitment" is emptied of all content, carry on, through the artistic path , a libertarian message that, perhaps unconsciously, is easily received by the public who at the end of their concerts also feels a little musician and certainly much more "free". The 100cello's Orchestra held the final concert of the involving Palermitan event on 9 September 2018 at the Teatro di Verdura.
