Plaosan temple relics of Rakai Pikatan government of the Hindu Mataram Kingdom

Plaosan Temple is located in Bugisan Village, Prambanan District, Klaten District, about 1.5 km east of Sewu Temple. This temple is an old building which is divided into two, Plaosan Lor temple complex (in Java means north) and Plaosan Kidul temple complex (kidul in Java means south). The statues in Plaosan temple are very smooth and detailed, similar to Borobudur temple, Sewu temple and Sari temple.

Plaosan Temple, a Buddhist temple by experts, is expected to be built during the reign of Rakai Pikatan of the Hindu kingdom of Mataram, which was mentioned at the beginning of the 9th century AD. One of the experts who supported this position was De Casparis, who had an inscription of the Cri Kahulunan inscription (842 AD). The inscription states that Plaosan Lor temple was built by Queen Sri Kahulunan, with the support of her husband. According to The Casparis, Sri Kahulunan is the title of Pramodhawardani, daughter of King Samarattungga of Shailendra House. The princess, who embraced Buddhism, married Rakai Pikatan from Rumah Sanjaya, who worshiped Hinduism.
