Photography #4 - Iceland road trip continued...Hot springs

in #photography7 years ago

We stopped in Hella the first night with the intention of visiting the sights on the 'golden circle' the next morning. Our first stop, after a lovely asian family shared their breakfast with us at the hostel we stayed at, was Geysir.

Geysir is situated along road 35. It's part of a geothermal field just north of Haukadalur and we got there early (to avoid the large crowds that descend on this spot towards midday). It was still pretty busy when we arrived around 8.30am (see last photo).

The area surrounding Geysir has a number of hot springs...

...and a 'little geysir' that's constantly bubbling away...

...and lots of hot running streams. Unusual to see when every other water source is frozen solid at this time or year (February)...

If you are visiting this time of year I recommend that you wrap up warm. Even surrounded by hot springs the cold was harsh, especially when the wind picked up. I also recommend crampons, as many of the paths are either snow covered or are sheets of ice.

Despite that, it was an wonderful experience and I thoroughly recommend it to anyone planning a visit to this part of the world. More on the 'Great Geysir' in the next post.

Thanks for stopping by!
