Nijhum Island is a small island of Bangladesh. It is located in Hatia upazila of Noakhali district. On April 8, 2001, the government of Bangladesh declared the whole island as a national park. The former name of Nijhum Island is Aostor-Osman. Bashman named Osman first settled with his buffalo bath and settled on the island of Nijhum. Then it was named after this name. Later, instrumentalist Amirul Islam Kalam named this name instead of Nijhum Island. [Citation needed] Originally called Balarchar, Char Osman, Kamalar Char and Chur Muri - Nijhum Island, comprising four chars. About 14,050 acres of the island woke up in the year 1950. Until the year 1970, there was no settlement, so the island was negligible. [1] Forest Department of Bangladesh started the forest department activities in the 70's. First of all, four pairs of harnesses are tested. Nijhum Island is now the sanctuary of deer. According to the deer of Harijanamari in 1996, there are 22,000 deer. Nijhum Island, surrounded by saltwater, is the sanctuary of Keora tree. Many people claim that Nijhum Island is the second largest mangrove forest in Bangladesh after the Sundarbans in the Managrove forest.
