Six-Spot Burnet Close-up


Found this little guy chilling out on a flower, down at the sand dunes at Refsnes beach. the Norwegian name for this creature is Blood Droplet Swarmer (directly translated).
This butterfly can actually survive a bird attack, it uses hydrocyanic acid for defence.
(just look, dont eat)

this was cool,never saw a bug with these colour patterns.If I may ask,from where does it release the acid when attacked?

i'm not sure. this bug is fairly common in area just below the artic belt
