Win points from each @Photogames Star’s post, by sharing music and photos.

PLEASE READ THE RULES BELOW - this is a different version of the Musical Monday game we have played in the past.

The Carribean Melody

When I travel to or live in a new place, it's always been a pleasure for me to discover the local folk music. I've long enjoyed Caribbean music, and I got to know a bit more about it when living in Puerto Rico. This photo on the left was taken at a port of Havana when I visited Cuba. The elderly man was singing a folk song in Spanish while playing his guitar. The beautiful Caribbean melody and his contagious smile reminds me of Harry Belafonte's "Jamaica Farewell". I first heard this song on the car radio in a road trip, and it's been on my playlist ever since.

Sold as calypso, this old Jamaican mento song is a classic hit in the 1950s and is widely covered. Besides the delightful rhythms and Harry Belafonte’s fabulous voice, I like the vivid description in its lyrics, and how it deals with the farewell. It brings me back to the many trips of my own - there’s always something from the destination that impressed you, although you are reluctant to say goodbye, the great memories will stay with you for the rest of your life journey. It’s not necessarily "a little girl" or a charming old guy, it can be the natural beauties, the architectural marvels, a new sport/game/dance/drink never tried before, a misadventure, an inspiring story, newly made friends, exotic ingredients and crafts in the markets, or a tasty national dish like "ackee and saltfish"... :D

Harry Belafonte - Jamaica Farewell

Down the way where the nights are gay
And the sun shines daily on the mountain top
I took a trip on a sailing ship
And when I reached Jamaica I made a stop

But I'm sad to say I'm on my way
Won't be back for many a day
My heart is down, my head is turning around
I had to leave a little girl in Kingston town

Sounds of laughter everywhere
And the dancing girls sway to and fro
I must declare my heart is there
Though I've been from Maine to Mexico

Down at the market you can hear
Ladies cry out while on their heads they bear
'Akey' rice, salt fish are nice
And the rum is fine any time of year

Now it's your turn! =)

RULES & HOW TO PLAY

For MUSIC MATCH MONDAY we would like you to share a piece of music (can be written lyrics or a link to a sound file or music video) AS WELL AS your own photo (or artwork) to go along with that music. We want to see how music inspires your art.

  1. Share your music and photo in the comments of the Photo Star’s post.
  2. Only one entry per person on each Photo Star's post.
  3. Each Photo Star will choose their winner.
  4. For this game you have 2 days to play (Wednesday 6PM EST / 11PM UTC).

Diamonds are a girl's best friend is the song that immediately came to mind when I went to see the Cartier exhibition at the National Gallery in Canberra two weeks ago. All the bling bling was amazing! The shadows cast by this tiara in particular were quite beautiful.

You are lightening fast @snooway! Diamonds are not my best friend, but it's a beautiful song, haha... and the tiara shadows are fascinating. So you went to the exhibition when going to Canberra for a wedding right? I didn't get to see that one when there.

Yes I went to see it the day after the wedding

That's a strange horse, isn't it? But I feel that this photo that I took in the Moroccan Sahara perfectly matches this song :)

This is too familiar - has been on my playlist for many years. Great match Julian! He's "through the desert" too, haha. And a perfect moment captured of the desert horse!

@jpphotography that cammel photo is stunning!

Congrats Julian! You win 3 points.

This song for me represents the chilled and relaxed feeling of the surfers, the excitement, the rush, and the adrenaline, it's like the heartbeat of the surfer... that perfect wave...

IMG_3694bc.jpg

Good match! Where was that? Not Surfer's Paradise I suppose... ;)

Thank you! : )
No this is at what is known as "Surfer's National Park" at Angourie Point in Yamba, NSW. If I started seeing waves like this at Surfers Paradise I'd be worried!!! :D

Oh cool, I was there too in Yamba! But I didn't recognize it at all - it was very sunny that day, so the sea looked totally different. Loved the seafood there. :)

We've been to Yamba a couple of times now... both times it was bad weather!
Yamba is a huge surfer's location, they have 11 beaches that offer something different for surfing abilities. This here is at Angourie Point and is for the SERIOUS surfers only! It's the most popular place in Yamba for surfers and one of only a few protected surfing reserves in Australia. It's a bit of a walk to get out to here though, there's a fair hike down and over the grassy headland to get to this location but totally worth it!!

We really should try and get down there on a bright and sunny day! : )

Amazing portrait @vmoldo! And a great match with the song. I had that album when I was a stupid teenager, but I didn't know what they were singing then, just thought it's cool, haha...

how music inspires my art? well most of the time quite literally.

This is awesome. I love this song and the cupboards, haha... Are they your friends?

thanks. yes they are. we first recorded it live but f*up so it was "we need to think of something" and cardboard box was born :)

Congrats Marko(if I remember your name right?)! You win 5 points.

My cousin looked pretty badass in this candid. Reminds me of M.I.A.

You are right, both your cousin and the video look pretty badass. ;)) Thanks for your entry!

When I think of music and my dad I think of Danny Boy. He would often say he wanted that song at his funeral. He got his wish and my brother sang it for him. The rendition I chose was by Peter Hollen, Scotty's good friend and awesome singer.

The picture is one of my favorites of my dad. It is on a hike while I was visiting him in Oregon. He was ahead of me, he was like a goat on the mountain, even at 80 years old. So he took a break and was looking over the valley as I approached him. And a picture of us together. Love you dad. 'Tis you, 'tis you must go and I must bide.

What a touching story and a beautiful ballad. A lovely dad you and Scott have! Thank you for sharing them with me Sara!

Congrats Sara! You win 6 points.

Thanks so much Donica.

This is my song:

This was another song I was listening to when I was making this post about Bolivia.
https://steemit.com/travelfeed/@jarvie/bolivia-photo-review-7-themes-or-40-pictures

Here's a couple images from the post:

You score bonus points Scott! South America is a magical continent and Bolivia is definitely the one impressed me the most. You lived there right? I lived in its "enemy" country that cut its port and landlocked it ;)
Los Kjarkas is so popular in that region, I bought their CDs but never heard of this one you posted. Do you know that famous Lambada which is covered from Los Kjarkas's Llorando Se Fue? I just want to post both here for the comparison(both shitty quality but the original versions):

Congrats Scott! You win 4 points.

This is such a lovely song and I guessed you wouldn't mind if I posted something Dutch:

This is a very very small and unpretentious song with an HUGE quality of poetry in it. I've really never heard something similar before and made me fall silent after I heard it for the first time.

The love and poetry and unpretentiousness for me is what I see in desolate landscapes and is truly something I LOVE taking pictures of. The more the better. Finding these really desolate places is hard in the Netherlands, but I have loved finding them in Scotland last year. So for me this song matches the following picture:

Gorgeous! I even understand some of it with my lousy Dutch ;) Love that feel of solitude in the song and your picture. Great job! I actually have lots of Dutch and Flemish songs on my playlist(added mostly when I was learning the language). Here's one of the first songs I heard - it just makes me smile every time when I hear it.

Congrats Rosanne! You win 2 points.

I can't live with the female vocal. It doesn't matter if it is dubstep or jazz. And this evergreen song performed by Melody Gardot I want to illustrate with my aerial photo.

alpine islands_DSC0723_resize.jpg

I like this version a lot, and the photo is amazing. Good job Dmytro! I just checked your post, but where's the bonus? ;)

Thank you! the lullaby is a bonus ))
