Hey guys! I am on the road again and spent the whole last week in the Belarusian capital of Minsk. Since I have already visited quite a few Eastern European metropolises, my expectations were accordingly high. The big cities in the east are unfortunately still strongly underestimated and I sometimes find myself imagining them as they were 20 years ago, but in reality they are now well-kept, clean, lively and modern dream cities. As expected, Minsk is no exception! The hospitality of the Belarusians makes you feel welcome and safe. My experiences have been entirely positive and I definitely want to return to Minsk soon. So much for the general impression, but now I'd like to show you my five favourite photo spots!

Hallo Leute! Ich bin mal wieder auf Reisen und verbrachte die gesamte letzte Woche in der weißrussischen Hauptstadt Minsk. Da ich nun schon einige osteuropäische Metropolen besucht habe, war meine Erwartungshaltung entsprechend hoch. Die Großstädte im Osten werden leider noch immer stark unterschätzt und ich ertappe mich selbst noch manchmal dabei, sie mir so vorzustellen, wie sie wohl vor 20 Jahren waren, doch in Wahrheit handelt es sich mittlerweile um gepflegte, saubere, lebhafte und moderne Traumstädte. Wie erwartet macht da auch Minsk keine Ausnahme! Aufgrund der Gastfreundlichkeit der Weißrussen fühlt man sich sofort willkommen und sicher. Meine Erfahrungen waren ausschließlich positiv und ich möchte auf jeden Fall bald wieder nach Minsk reisen. So viel zum allgemeinen Eindruck, doch nun möchte ich euch meine fünf Lieblings-Fotospots zeigen!

Swislatsch River promenade/Uferpromenade an der Swislatsch

The calm river Swislatsch flows through the centre of Minsk and besides some sights there is also a cozy promenade on its bank. Here you have a great view of the highest buildings of the city, which are reflected in the water.

Der ruhige Fluss Swislatsch durchfließt das Zentrum von Minsk und neben einigen Sehenswürdigkeiten befindet sich auch eine gemütliche Promenade an seinem Ufer. Hier hat man einen tollen Blick auf die höchsten Gebäude der Stadt, die sich im Wasser spiegeln.

National Library/Nationalbibliothek

The National Library is one of Minsk's modern landmarks, although its design is not loved by all residents. Since it is located on the eastern outskirts of the city, the view from the roof, which can be entered for a small fee, is rather unspectacular. But it gets even more exciting after dark when you can admire a futuristic light show.

Die Nationalbibliothek ist eines der modernen Wahrzeichen von Minsk, auch wenn ihr Design nicht von allen Einwohnern geliebt wird. Da sie sich am östlichen Stadtrand befindet, ist der Blick vom Dach, das man gegen eine kleine Gebühr betreten darf, eher unspektakulär. Umso aufregender wird es allerdings nach Einbruch der Dunkelheit, wenn man eine futuristische Lichtershow bewundern kann.

Church of all Saints/Gedächtniskirche aller Heiligen

Only a few minutes' walk from the National Library is the most impressive church in the city, with its radiant white façade, which is particularly impressive against the backdrop of a deep blue sky. Especially here, I was surprised how few tourists one meets, which is of course very pleasant for photographers.

Nur wenige Gehminuten von der Nationalbibliothek entfernt befindet sich die wohl eindrucksvollste Kirche der Stadt, die mit ihrer strahlend weißen Fassade besonders vor dem Hintergrund eines tiefblauen Himmels beeindruckt. Besonders hier war ich überrascht, wie wenig Touristen einem begegnen, was für Fotografen natürlich widerum äußerst angenehm ist.

Galileo Shopping Mall

In this case, the mall itself serves only as a vantage point for the actual attraction. The huge "Gates of Minsk" can't be better captured than from the terrace of the café on the top floor. A visit is especially recommended at sunset - probably one of the most beautiful views you can enjoy in Minsk!

Die Mall selbst dient in diesem Fall lediglich als Aussichtspunkt für die eigentliche Sehenswürdigkeit. Die gewaltigen „Gates of Minsk“ kann man nirgends besser in Szene setzen als von der Terrasse des Cafés im obersten Stockwerk. Ein Besuch empfiehlt sich dabei besonders zu Sonnenuntergang - wohl eine der schönsten Aussichten, die man in Minsk genießen kann!

Bolshoi Opera House/Bolshoi Oper

The Minsk Opera House is centrally located and is another architectural highlight of the city. The best time to take pictures there is in the evening, when the building is illuminated in a very impressive way.

Das Opernhaus von Minsk befindet sich in zentraler Lage und ist ein weiteres architektonisches Highlight der Stadt. Die beste Zeit zum fotografieren ist hier abends, wenn das Gebäude stimmungsvoll beleuchtet wird.

I hope you enjoyed this insight into the Belarusian capital! If you want to leave the beaten tourist tracks of Europe, then you should definitely treat yourself to a few days in Minsk!
