yawning leopard seal at sunset
This is one heck of a huge leopard seal that I picked up whilst exploring Paradise harbour on the Antarctic Peninsula. I was waiting for guests to prepare for disembarkation and had a few minutes to explore the area close to the ship. I was pleasantly surprised when I rounded a corner and saw a huge seal resting on an ice floe.
Once I was there this huge, older female lifted her head for a brief moment before laying back down and started yawning a few times presenting her impressive teeth. It is no wonder that not many penguins escape her grasp when she grabs a hold of them. Nothing short of incredible!
