RE: PHOTOGRAPHY-101 - CRITIQUE - WHITE FLOWERS #WIWCONTEST WINNERS

Perhaps it is the language barrier, but yes, in most of the photos I pointed out what may be considered the "negatives" or "drawbacks" as you called them. Photography is always somewhat subjective, no matter what "the rules" may be. Does the image have IMPACT on the viewer? If it does, that image is a success. Some of those images did not make an IMPACT on you for whatever reasons, but that is OK.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean in the second paragraph here:

Criteria for assessing the work in the cone to me vseravno

but I am guessing you were something more scientific in my approach? There is never going to be any exact criteria for assessing the images chosen each week. Each image will always stand alone, but the main criteria is always going to be IMPACT! After that I will look at the technical qualities etc.

Over my lifetime I have watched and listened to hundreds of professional judges in professional photography contests. I know how much opinions differ, so I have no argument with that. So your opinion can't be wrong, and I value that. But, yes! This contest, and every contest on Steemit is going to be somewhat subjective. I do the best I can to be objective and look at the rules of thirds, the golden ratio, leading lines, s-curves, use of lighting, use of focus, use of color and use of motion etc. etc.. But sometimes photography just can't be pigeon-holed that way!

Photography is not a science. What makes a successful photograph? Is it just something that some people ooh and aah about? Or is it one that has so much IMPACT that others are willing to pay money for? I am more inclined to believe the second choice. Could it hang on a wall somewhere, or be used in advertising, or on products? It is the art of seeing, and then presenting. Photography is different from painting in that way. The best photographs often break every "rule" there is in the eyes of the theorists. My best selling images always surprise me, because they seldom fit the mold!

Thanks for the discussion. I value your opinions. :-)

We draw a conclusion... All creative competitions are a lottery ;)

Not Exactly! But judges happen to be human and not robots. Robots would have a formula, and that is all that would count! LOL!
