Walking Up Sand Dunes
The sand dunes at Wilsons Prom, called "Big Drift" are a great place to explore. However, short distances in this place can be very taxing on the body. Trying to walk up the steep sides of dunes can be slow going and sometimes feel like you aren't getting anywhere. I watch people plant a foot against the sand and try and walk up them as if it were a solid mound. But sand moves. I've found the best way to climb a sand dune is to kick your toes in and slightly down with each step. Taking a slow and methodical approach like this leads to less slipping and less energy spent overall. It is still tiring as it is a steep hill, but conserving strength in an environment like this can be very important. Any chance you get to avoid going up or down over dunes is best as well.

Great photo and amazing dunes! Thank you @kieranstone
Thank you!
It is a bit like walking in soft snow and the kick the step in and walk up works well. Lots of sand dune posts recently ! I think I liked the Namibian colours better ;-)
That's where I got the "technique" from. Hiking some slopes in NZ.
It's only been 2 sand dune posts!
Well perhaps its just your profile background pic . And I remember some Stockton pics you posted (as I lived near Stockton for 15 years and never went and photographed it !)
Never been to Stockton 😁
Hmm. Where are the cover page dunes from ? I though you guys did a workshop there ? Must have been some other Kieran Stone
I tagged you in a post that I did 4 months ago. Is that the one you're thinking of?
Or maybe my Instagram stories?
It was this one. https://steempeak.com/photofeed/@kieranstone/finding-dreams
Don't worry I am just going mad and experiencing some time compression.
That reminds me of the sand dunes on Kangaroo Island.
