1 Month on Steemit - Mt Maunganui in Tauranga, New Zealand
Just over a month on Steemit and I can safely say I enjoy it here more than Instagram and Facebook. The platform has it's issues, with function and users but nothing's perfect. I can't wait to tell you all how I go after 1 year! How was your first month on Steemit? Or if you're a long time user, what tips have you got for me for the next 11 months?
The walk up Mt Maunganui was wonderful. The views are a fitting reward for the effort too. Just look at how awesome those green folds in the hill are!

Congrats on the first month!!! I remember my first month, it was difficult and addicting haha. My advice would be just stick with it, and post consistently. Just like insta and fbook if you post consistent good content you will grow a loyal audience here. And it is so, so much better here. No bull crap algorithms hiding your posts from followers, no garbage advertising that you don’t need or want forced onto your feed, no banned hashtags and ridiculous posting rules, and instead of growing some corporations bank account with ad revenue, you actually get paid for your hard work. Steemit is the best.
The bull crap algorithms on both Facebook and Instagram drive me insane. It's so nice to look through my feed and know that I'm seeing all of the posts that I should be, instead of random posts from 5 days ago.
RIGHT??? I have started to take over our business instagram the past few weeks after my wife handling it for years and it is horrible. I literally need two phones so that I can check if hashtags are banned on one before I post on another. And looking through the feeds is just a joke. I love looking at my Steemit feed, I know it's all just from people I actually follow :)
Wait, hold on...banned hashtags? What is this sorcery you speak of?
I do like the stuff I see on Insta, but today I was scrolling down my feed and it was all from 5 or 6 days ago... Da fuck? I have a good follower base there so it's great for my business still. But Steemit is better for my sanity 😁🙃
This looks like where Hobbits would have their holiday homes.
Looks like were I would like a holiday home 😉
Beautiful image. It looks sharp even at f5.6 which I wouldn't expect. I'm learning all the time.
Everything is far away so the depth of field doesn't need to be huge 🙂
great vivid colors, good pic!
Thanks so much!
Congrats on your first month! I am glad you are here and posting such beautiful photos!
I am here also a bit more than a month and still learning ) I love the community here around @photofeed and the contests. These helped me to assimilate here. Haven't been on facebook a bit more than a month )
I still spend time on other social media but it just doesn't feel the same.
Thanks for liking my photos 😁
Awesome pic, man! I was thinking it was a drone shot at first, but I guess it's possible you walked up to a point overlooking this area. Miracles happen, right?
PS Congrats on the first month! I absolutely love seeing your work, always top quality stuff.
It is quite a drop off from where I was standing 😬. It's a steep walk up too.
I always appreciate your comments and support too 😊
Beautiful photo by the way! Haha :)
Haha thanks!
Following you on Instagram....your work is amazing!!
Thank you very much 😃
That photo! Woah! The perspective feels so weird, and yet so right. Love it!
Also, congratulations on surviving a whole month! ;) I started around the same time as you and had mostly positive experiences. It took a while to get into it - there was a learning curve, eased by collaboration with friends, and when I first joined I felt lonely and lost in a land without groups or obvious organization. The contests and #photofeed have helped me find a sense of purpose and place here, if that makes sense, and now I'm at home.
Besides the obvious monetary benefits of being in a place that rewards content, the best part of participating in Steemit has been the way it's prompted (and in some ways forced) me to be more creative with my posting and comments. I haven't written so much in more than a decade, since the golden age of internet forums, and I love it.
"the golden age of internet forums" ; I remember those days back when its rained doughnuts and you could swim in chocolate streams.
Yes, a bygone era. The good ol' days. ;)
Isn't that want Discord is for here? The golden age of chat rooms?
Thanks for bringing up forums... it's going to bug me now the name of one I was super active on but can't remember now...what was it...hmmm...nope. Lost it.
@photofeed has been awesome. Just starting out on Steemit and instantly having something great for photographers... perfect.
Oh and "mostly positive experiences"...do tell about the other ones
Haha, I don't know about Discord, but I used to live on vBulletin forums many years ago. Nothing else in social media has managed to recapture the magic of those days.
I don't have any juicy negative experiences to recount - I'm just leaving room for improvement - there was the steep learning curve, and dealing with bandwidth issues was frustrating until I got over that hump.
OMG! CELLAR.ORG! That's what it was and it's still active! I'm going to have to check t out. I wonder if I can remember my username and password...
My thing was Tolkien forums, hehe.
Wow those folds in the hillside are interesting. I am glad you came to steemit; it has been nice to get to know you a little bit.
Funny... we've been using Insta as a messaging app rather than a photo sharing app 😅
Yes and it is not even very good at that ;-)
