Its so gorgeous how the virga is painting the sky above Cathedral Rock as the sun sets in beautiful Sedona Arizona USA.
What a place to call home' and where I live is actually in the cluster of homes in the middle of the image which is just outside of town. The ocotillo cactus in the foreground is indigenous to the desert southwest but is not considered to be a true cactus. Every now and then we are lucky enough to witness an event like this one.
Whoa. Quite a view. Almost looks like "fire" in the sky or like a volcano or something like that. That's some otherwordly looking virga especially in comparison to the the size of the mountains which are huge. But the virga kinda just makes the mountains look small! Cool picture!
It kinda does look like fire in the sky. That's two storms one in front of the other that flow together visually .

I love how the setting sun can turn virga so many different shades of reds and oranges. In Alaska we can often get purple and red undertones on the bottom of the clouds in the distance away from the mountains.
I agree, virga helps create some of the bests and most colorful sunsets. Sounds like Alaska has some awesome skies to view.
