Lego Mars Mission

in #photofeed7 years ago (edited)

Not a long time ago, on a table somewhere in Sofia...

My friend @fotosdenada wondered the other day how it is possible that there are no Lego macro fans on Steemit. Being a Lego fan myself, I had to prove him wrong. During the weekend, I spent half an hour in my mom's apartment searching for my lego Minifigures. When I was a kid, I was crazy about Lego's space sets in particular. Why? I was crazy about science fiction movies, books, and aliens!

The "astronaut" in this photoshoot is from a Lego System (can't remember the number) from the early 1990's. My idea was to place it in the foreground, together with a small lego brick, and add something reddish in the background that vaguely resembles Mars. Can you guess what that red thing is? Also, I wanted to take the same shot twice using different lenses - Olympus 12-40mm f/2.8 and Lensbaby 56mm f/1.6. Both of them are very capable when it comes to macro photography, but the results they produce are totally different. If you have been following my blog, you already know about the glowing effect the Lensbaby is able to create.

Which of the two do you prefer?

Question no 1
Answer: A Nescoffee cup

Question no 2
Answer: The first one. I'm sick of a blurred TV footage “from the Moon” ;)

A Nescoffee cup

It is a jar lid but it could have very well been a Nescoffee cup :) In fact, I have a yellow one.

blurred TV footage “from the Moon”

This one is from Mars! :D

Thanks for stopping by @lighteye.

Actually between these two picture I choose the first one because when I think about the space everything must be clear and clean... Meanwhile they are really nice pictures...

Thank you for sharing and have a nice day my friend...

Thanks a lot, Mustafa! You have a good point about space :)) Glad that you liked them. Cheers and have a nice Sunday!

I like the first picture more. It looks more realistic to me, as if there are other species in space for sure. Furthermore, you can see more of Mars on the first one. The second one is more dreamy, but what it says to me is like that's a dream that will never happen.

Question no 1
Answer: A vase?

Question no 2
Answer: The second one (I'm still under Lensbaby spell, maybe it will pass one day).

Haha, a vase?! Not even close 😁 It was a red jar lid:

I also like the Lensbaby shot more than the other one :)

I see it's kinda a vase-shaped jar! So you're wrong, I was pretty close! :D
Same taste, Dan ;-)

The second photo is more like a dream... maybe for a fictional scene I would prefer the first one. As for the red object... it could be anything imaginatory... this blurring can make even a square look like a circle. Maybe @agniese had a hint here?
My imagination says “a balloon”🎈

And now I see the ballon, @mdosev! Ha! You might be right! Dan!!! What the heck is that?!
I'm so curious! I want to know, right now! :D

Baloon is a good guess :) I just posted a photo of what I used under @agniese's comment. Yes, it looks dreamy but the yellowish glowing could also be interpreted as heat from the sun.

Thanks for stopping by and for your comment, Miro! When are you coming to Sofia again?

I’m coming this Sunday but just for a couple of hours maybe. Next week I will miss Sofia. Maybe at the end of March the time will come. And I will come in Sofia of course 😁

Добре, чакам да ми кажеш :))

I would prefer the second photo. I think there is a more fantastic effect :)
congratulations

Thanks for you feedback @artizm :)

Ha! It's the old Space set! I have some of those at home, somewhere, from the 1980's and early 90's. No idea what the red thing is, but it works with the shot! The Lensbaby looks like an old film camera; reminds me of some of NASA's earlier images. 12-40, eh? That's a pretty nice range for micro 4/3!

Yeah, these 2 lenses pretty much cover my photoraphy needs at the moment :) Thanks for the inspiration, man! I wouldn't have taken this shot if it wasn't for you ;)

No. 2 into space feeling u can almost feel the heat from the sun in it.

Yes, absolutely! I was thinking of tweaking the color temperature but then I decided that the yellowish tint looks like heat from the sun :) Thanks for your comment @norwegianbikeman!

Great project! I prefer lensbaby...I was thinking to by lensbaby trio because myself, just like you, love to play with light. It is hard to identify red ‘object’ in background, bokeh is strong, it can be vase, ball, pot, spotlight...you name it. Love imaginative side of the post!

Thank you, Di! I am not sure about the rest of the Lensbabys, but this one has so many creative uses :) I am sure that it will be a great addition to your gear.

The red object is a jar lid :)

Your mom kept your Lego!!! Such a good mom :) I have all my boys Lego in storage too for when they want their kids to have them. And your Lego guys...ya...brings back some memories.

Is the red thing the pail that you stored your Legos in?

I prefer the 2nd photo because in my mind, it's space so everything needs to be glowy....not just one thing but all....after all the sun is shining directly without any kind of hinderance right? Makes sense to me anyhow.

Fun project there....really fun.

She keeps most of my toys, so yeah, she's great :))

It's not the pail :) Yesterday, I was considering buying an apple or a tomato to use in the shot, but none of those in the supermarket looked good enough. So, I went back home and checked my fridge where I found this expired jar of yogurt, which had a red lid - perfect for the purpose :)

I like the second one, too, for the very same reason.

Of course it can't be a pail- perspective!! hello!! :) - the size of the Lego man in comparison makes more sense with your jar lid.

Pretty creative Dan, pretty darn creative.

Does yogurt come in glass containers? It's all plastic here.

Thank you, Deb! Yogurt comes in plastic containers mostly, but there are some more expensive brands that sell it in glass. Just like in the good old days :)

I love things in glass containers - that's what I use at home for leftovers too. I'd pay a bit more for yogurt in a glass container - for sure! I eat it every day. I eat kefir yogurt or skyr or greek.

btw - I wish you'd get more for your posts....you put a lot into them and have a lot of comment threads.

I wish there was a way to send you Bulgarian yogurt :) There's a special bacteria that is used for its production - Bacillus Bulgaricus. Isn't kefir a drink? 🙄

As for the post - it is what it is :) I have accumulated a decent amount of SP, so if the price of Steem goes up, I'd be able to upvote my posts with a few dollars. I am happy about the comments though! Very happy :)

Kefir is a drink too, but it is a yogurt. It has a different mouth feel to it than regular yogurt, almost gelantinous in a way. And it's full of probiotics and fermented things. I bought it by mistake thinking it was skyr.

Ok, I won't worry about your blog. Glad you're happy with all the chatting and meeting room friends. :)

Oh, I didn't know. I also had to google"skyr" - it's an Icelandic type of yogurt?

This the real thing:
