Mt Fox Crater

in #photofeed7 years ago (edited)

A shot of the Mt Fox Crater (801m or 2628ft). A violent, volcanic explosion created Mount Fox about 100,000 years ago. A lava flow 10 metres thick spewed from the southern end of the crater and chunks of molten magma were thrown out of the volcano's vent. Girringun National Park, Far North Queensland, Australia. I took this shot from a helicopter.

It was nice to have this picture used on the cover of Protected. Protected is the National Parks Association of Queensland's magazine. Established in 1930, the National Parks Association of Queensland has played a pivotal role in the creation of most of the National Parks in Queensland. At least 70% of all national parks in Queensland were either gazetted or extended following recommendations made to the State Government by NPAQ.

from helicopter? That must have been cool :D

Yes helicopters are always fun.

One day I would like to see a volcano on my own eye

This one is very old and considered extinct.

Woow it is so interesting place...

Thanks. It is quite interesting, especially from the air. Its hard to see the crater well from the ground unless you can find an elevated position.

Oh wow, cool photo!

Thanks. Appreciate all your support and the help from teamaustralia .

I would've never guessed this would've been in Aussie! More like Mars haha :-)

A bit too green for mars but I know what you mean !

Haha, that's true - until we water it ;-)

Wow. Worthy cover photo! Wonderful shot.

That's quite an image !
