Gokstad Viking Ship

in #photofeed5 years ago

The Gokstad ship was built in about 850, at the height of the Viking period. The ship is made of oak and is clinker-built, with 16 rows of strakes. About the year 900AD, a rich and powerful man died, and the Gokstad ship was used for his burial. The ship was discovered on the Gokstad farm in Sandefjord in 1879 by two teenage boys. Oslo, Norway. I took this shot a few years ago in Oslo; quite a difficult shot and had to layer some shots using luminosity masking to recover the windows etc.

I'm heading to Copenhagen this year and I think they have a lot of Viking stuff there too...Well check some out. There's 4 of 5 Viking ships at Roskilde apparently. Should be cool.

I have never been to Copenhagen. One day !

We're looking forward to it and have heard it's a nice place to visit. :)

Brewery tour is a favorite of many who go there.
