So sick of Instagram algorithm politics.   How amazing is APPICS going to be when ...

in #appics6 years ago

... it launches on its own SMT! I am enjoying the Beta testing at the moment. So much potential in this space and marketing is the key here to on boarding the masses which is the speciality of the APPICS team. This shot was is in the pre-dawn light looking over Crater Bluff with Tonduron Spire just a distant peak in the background. Taken from the Grand High Tops of the Warrumbungles after night hike to reach this spot. The first European to sight and explore the area was John Oxley in 1818 who named the range the Arbuthnot Range. The Aboriginal name 'Warrumbungles' from the Gamilaroi tribe meaning 'crooked mountains', soon took over as the most frequently used name. Lieben, on Crater Bluff, was the most difficult rock climb in Australia for many years after its first ascent by Bryden Allen and Ted Batty in 1962. Can you break down @appics for me briefly? What will make it be so amazing... compared to using, say @steempeak ?

It looks really slick and is intended to be similar to Instagram... so it's really intended to be a mobile app front end to Steem. There was a demo at Steemfest, and clearly a lot of money and development effort has gone into it... definitely aimed at encouraging mass adoption...

Yes as @aussieninja says it is targeting people used to an experience like Instagram. It will also run on a SMT (ie a level above the base steem token but using the steem blockchain once it goes from beta after SMT's are launched around March next year). Steempeak is great however it is more of a long form blogging platform (at the moment), they will complement each other. I wrote a bit of a review of APPICS here https://steempeak.com/appics/@intrepidphotos/appics-app-testing

So when you use an SMT will your post still appear on dapps which use the steem blockchain directly?... in the same way that posting to @dtube will show up on @steempeak or steemit.com

No so once the SMT's launch the posts to the DApps that use them will not be first level posts to the blockchain so they will not show up on top level viewers like Steemit/Steempeak (in the same way that Custom Json data written to the blockchain that Steem Monsters and others use does not show up in them now). It will essentially be a different platform with a different token (XAP). But all activity will be recorded on the steem blockchain and APPICS will have to hold STEEM tokens to obtain the resource credits (RC) to make all the transactions to the blockchain required for their social media platform to function and onboard users. So that is why SMT's create demand for STEEM even if they reward their users in their own token.

And we will need to hold their SMT to use their resources? Not Steem?

I imagine that will be up to them and is yet to be determined. They will choose the rules of engagement for the SMT. It is likely they will have some requirement for holding of the token to stop spam but will delegate that to new accounts that are verified with a phone number or attached to a unique phone ID or something similar. SMTs are still under development so there is some uncertainty as to how it will all work. You can see the whitepaper here https://smt.steem.com/

Cheers Rob. Thanks for taking the time

No problem. Hope your photo prize workshop is going well. Will have to enter your comp one year ;-)

The idea is that the user of the program will not need to know that it is based on steem unless they want to. Steem becomes simply an outsourced blockchain to record the activity so that the Dapps don't have to run their own blockchain nodes and worry about up-time and security etc but still get the advantage of their own token to do an ICO. They purchase the rights to interaction bandwith on the blockchain by buying and holding steem .

Beautiful photo with an interesting history lesson. As an amateur photographer I appreciate when the photographer gives a background story. Appics sounds interesting. I have followed another photographer from NSW on a photo site for a few years. These days I don't have time for photography. I'm brand new on Steemit - no blog, no introduction yet but I'll enjoy adding you to the 3 or 4 people I'm following on Steemit, lol. Yeah, big time ;-) I'll enjoy seeing your photos and learning more from your posts.

it's bloody brilliant

Great photo. Reminds me of Devils Tower in Wyoming and in Close Encounters of the Third Kind of course he he

Yes a few people say that about close encounters; I have never watched it.

I visited Devils Tower years ago. It is really other worldly. Nothing else around it.

Thanks for info about the App = I will take a closer look on it for sure!

Steem politics easier to deal with than algorithm politics? :D

I love gigantic rocks. Those do like a pretty tough climb. You lined them up really nicely :)

Lol. Steem politics are like a game you can win. Instagram politics are like going to the casino ; if you stay long enough you will always loose

While I am a little more of a skeptic than you are, I'm still quite excited and will be following the launch and release of SMT's closely. :)

It will be make or break for steem I think.
