Aurora Skyline
Seems like too long since we have had any good Auroral activity up here corresponding with clear skys. Lets hope the next few months bring some activity. This is a shot from 2017 of the Aurora Borealis or Northern Lights in Mt Robson Provincial Park. The red/pink band of forms at around 250 – 500 km altitude from high energy state excited oxygen atoms emitting light at 630 nm. The bottom layer is the more typically seen green aurora that forms between 100 – 250 km altitude by excited oxygen atoms emitting light at 557.7 nano-metres. I like the way the green band follows the terrain here, there is no reason for that as the aurora is in no way related to the topography, it was just a lucky coincidence.
This was the same night and location that I took my shots of STEVE to the south over Berg Lake and Mt Robson from the same position (the shot above is looking north). I have included a shot below from the same position looking south.
To learn more about STEVE or see a time-lapse of the above shot you can check out my "Who is STEVE" post https://steempeak.com/@intrepidphotos/who-is-steve
Likewise I have some more information on the "true" colours of an Aurora and some suggestions on what white balance to use when shooting Aurora in my post here https://steempeak.com/photofeed/@intrepidphotos/crooked-river-aurora

I dream of auroras, I've never seen them though... hopefully one day. I even composed a song called Northern Lights and painted artworks of them without ever having watched them live :(
One day
Yes I hope you get the chance also to see them !
Thank you, I hope so too
I wrote this song that is on my second album

One day I will sing it under the auroras
Amazing photos
Daaamn, that's so beautiful. Great shots!
Thanks Franz
Oh my!
Love the picket fence with STEVE!
Thanks Casey
Wow. That looks pretty amazing. I can only imagine what it is like seeing this in real life.
It is an addictive thing to watch . But it is not a good hobby for your sleeping patterns lol
love the shot with the reflection on the water. looks like you are on another planet. I guess I'm a little famous and didn't know it (Steve). In San Francisco they call the fog Karl.

Howdy sir intrepidphotos! wow..incredible sight. Do those things come and go or do they hang around all night if conditions are right?
They come and go and are quite fleeting. There is an satellite alert system that can notify you however to make it a bit easier to get out there on the right nights.
howdy sir intrepidphotos! Oh that's interesting about the alert service so you can take advantage of that and be prepared, very cool.
