We Sailed To An Island And Played With Fire
A few weeks ago 3 boats - SV Spray, SV Pippen & SV Tout Va Bien (yours truly) went on an adventure to Sidney Spit, in the Gulf Islands of Beautiful BC. It was the first overnight sail of the season, and it felt absolutely fantastic to cast off from the dock!
It took us 3-4 hours to sail from Victoria. We were fortunate to have sunshine and favorable winds the whole way! For most of the voyage to Sidney Spit I was anticipating practicing taking long exposure shots using a technique called steel wool spinning. After getting hooked up to our mooring buoys we piled into the dingy and rowed ashore just before dusk and got ourselves set up.
We used a metal whisk, stuffed with steel wool, Rodney's leash and a lighter. We found that fluffing the wool up a bit before stuffing it into the whisk seemed to help the wool burn a little more consistently. My friend Ellie was incredibly patient with me as we tried different exposure settings and patterns.

It always looks cool the steel wool . Nice shots. The 2nd last is my favorite.
thanks! I appreciate the feedback :)
I can see why you live and breathe sailing. Amazing photos Hayley.
Thank you angie! I love being outside in any capacity but sailing really has a strong hold on me.
