Seaweed farming boats in Lombangan island

Nusa Lombangan is a small island off the coast of Bali. It is such a special space. So close to overcrowded south Bali, yet is seems to have escaped the tourist influx and maintained the Balinese charm, peacefulness and spirituality.

Now, about this picture: what you see behind the boats is seaweed farms. At this sunset, the tide was very very low and it had exposed all the seaweed farms, leaving the boats stuck on the sand. It is a pretty spectacular sight to be revealed, especially, when you are not aware at all that there are seaweed farms under the ocean. When we first arrived at this beach (where our hut was located), it was in the morning. The tide was high and the ocean looked normal, nothing out of the ordinary. We spent the entire day away exploring the island and you can imagine our surprise when we returned to our beach hut and found this view! We actually thought we were at the wrong place and kept walking and walking away, really confused hehe...

I didn't take a picture from high tide in the morning, because I didn't know something so unusual was hiding under the water, that was to be revealed later in the evening.

Lombangan also has incredible surfing, dramatic cliffs, very strong riptides (I got caught in one and nearly died ), and it offers an incredible first row view of Bali's volcano, Mount Agung.
