Palau Sunscreen Ban

in #photofeed6 years ago

Palau is set to be the first country to impose a widespread ban on sunscreen in effort to protect its vulnerable coral reefs. Palau is a world leader in environmental conservation, in 2009 Palau created the world's first shark sanctuary. I'm very excited to be heading there in less than 2 weeks time.

This photograph was taken on the walls of Wickham Island in the Solomon Islands, which is filled with beautiful soft corals.

I'm sorry for the lack of content the last few weeks, i've been incredibly flat out with work but last i've recently received a Nikon D850 and a new Aquatica water housing to suit so i'll be posting a lot of photos in the weeks to come.

Ban on sunscreen? Why? I've never heard of anything negative correlated with sunscreen..

Theres a list of chemicals in some sunscreens that stun growth of corals and are toxic to others.

Gotcha.. I usually cover myself in mayonnaise. Think that's bad for coral? ;)
