Gentoo penguins are seen on various islands of the Antarctic Peninsula. However, besides the Peninsula, these cute little guys aren't adapting well to the warming climate with breeding pairs falling significantly.
Surprisingly, most of Antarctica remains open to commercial fishing and penguins must compete with krill fisheries to feed themselves.
The creation of a network of marine protected areas around Antarctica would go a long way in managing the resources of the Antarctic and would help adorable species like the gentoo penguin live in harmony with commercial interests.
