Selfi history:

  • Paris Hilton, a wealthy heiress, trendsetter, rialite participant and not to mention her titles, claims that she and singer Britney Spears invented selfies.

  • She wrote it on Twitter with a photo of her and Britney taken 11 years ago and one recent one.

  • Her tweet has received a lot of attention, and many people have tried to explain to her that her claim is not true. Although in recent decades this way of photography has flooded the world thanks to smartphones and social networks, the first selfie was created much, much earlier, with the first photos taken.

  • Check out the gallery for a brief history of selfies.

Interesting about selfie photos:

1)A window into personality

  • It turns out to be our favorite selfi pose window in our character. Specifically, one study found that there is a link between what kind of selfie we make and what type of personality we are. For example, conscientious persons tend to hide the location of selfies, while positive and optimistic people look directly at the camera. Those who smoke their mouths are emotionally unstable.

2)It can become addictive

  • Psychologists claim that taking selfies and posting such photos on social networks can be addictive. In addition, individuals addicted to this trend tend to develop obsessive compulsive disorder and depression. British psychologist David Will described self-addiction as "a mental illness with an extremely high risk of suicide."

3)Who is the champion in selfies?

  • Although selfies are a global phenomenon, it turns out that people in some cities make more of them. Investigating the hashtags on the social networks under the hashtag #selfie, the researchers found that they were mostly made by residents of Makati City, Philippines. Makati City is "the world's capital of selfies", followed by Manhattan and Miami.

4)The first selfie created in the 16th century

  • If you thought that selfies were created by the development of smartphones, you are wrong. Namely, the first ever selfie was painted back in 1524. The "self-portrait in a convex mirror" was painted by a 21-year-old painter Parmidino, unaware that he had invented the number one trend of the 21st century!

5)It was not always easy to make selfies

  • Apart from the fact that the Parmigianian self-portrait was created for some time, like oil on canvas, the first selfie camera was made by Robert Cornelius, in 1839. However, unlike today's selfie painting process, Cornelius had to put the camera on a rack, remove the lenses from the lens, run into the frame, sit for 5 minutes, and then run back to the camera to replace the lens and lenses. In this terribly tiring and stressful process, it is believed that Robert has succeeded in making the first selfie camera in human history.

6)Annual Selfie Award

  • In 2013, the Oxford English Dictionary declared the word "self" as the word of the year. The reason is simple this year, the use of the word “selfi” in English has increased by 17,000 percent!

7)Exotic selfies

  • Everyone likes to make as crazy and original selfies as possible. Still, astronauts, who make their selfies - of course - in space, lead the way! Baz Oldrin is the proud owner of the first space selfie, during the 1966 Gemini Mission.

8)Women Vs. men

  • This isn't really surprising, but it's certainly worth mentioning. In fact, the survey found that women make more selfies than men, an average of 55.2% more. For example, in New York, women lead the way by about 61%, while in Russia this percentage is much higher - as much as 82%.

9)Selfie sticks

  • This gadget is not welcome everywhere, and is even banned in Hong Kong, Paris Disneyland, and US theme parks. Also, festivals like Lollalooz and Koachel have banned the use of selfi sticks, so visitors have to take photos the old-fashioned way - by extending their hands.
