Winter on the Mountain

"Summer is gone with all its infinite wealth, and still nature is genial to man. Though he no longer bathes in the stream, or reclines on the bank, or plucks berries on the hills, still he beholds the same inaccessible beauty around him"

This quote comes from the journal of the exquisitely eloquent Henry David Thoreau , a man who understood that the beauty of the world is unending, no matter the season. The accompanying photo, however, comes from out mini-adventure to the top of Sandia Peak.

There is something to be said for standing on the highest point of any mountain. But it is especially wonderful when you can view the city you live in from the peak. Snow rarely graces the valley in which we live, so it was a truly lovely view to see the white resting on the desert floor.
