RE: MOVIE MAGIC! - Rare Pic of the Day #3

in #photo7 years ago

Foremost in the public domain among Phillip K Dick's existential and philosophical Sci-Fi work is Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep? , aka Blade Runner. A film far ahead of the curve not just in film effects and story premise, BR is a story of consequences, custodial negligence, abuse, mortality, and giving of purpose to existence, no matter how short or inconsequential it may seem.

A very underrated and misunderstood tale, with a truly remarkable original score/soundscape by Vangellis. This tale only grows in popularity with every passing year, hence the sequel.

It's so good I'm listening to it right now, a kind of cyber film noir. I believe it was a source of inspiration for many composers, and remains so.

Thanks PD.

Yes, there are countless films that have drawn inspiration from Blade Runner's world, but only a handful have come close to creating the feel and ambiance. I can think of two off the top of my head that are uniquely similar but no where near the vicinity of BR's brilliance: Code 46 and Wicked City (anime).

I often listen to the soundtrack to get into a headspace where I'm working in a meditative state. Blade Runner Blues is my song of choice, all day, every day :)
