Greater white-fronted goose

This season in Moscow, a handsome white-fronted goose, a rare guest for us, has been wintering. On the Moscow River, which was not covered with ice, among various ducks, he was clearly quite satisfying and comfortable. Unusual to the citizen's eyes, a large bird attracts attention. Look how beautiful and magnificent he is!

A white-fronted goose nests in the Arctic tundra, managing to breed chicks in a short northern summer. And for the winter migrates to the warm sea coast. European geese fly to the Black and Mediterranean Sea, Asian - to Southeast Asia and India, North American - to the south of the continent.

The goose has a rich chocolate color, orange legs and a pink beak. There are black spots on the light belly, and a white spot over the beak, for which the goose was called white-fronted - these are signs of an adult bird older than 3-4 years. In the wild, these geese live for about 17 years, and in captivity they can live up to 27 years.

White-fronted geese are wonderful swimmers, runners and even divers! They live in open spaces near rivers and ponds, eat only plant foods, including fodder cereals on agricultural fields, algae and love to feast on berries.
