The ancient Greeks came up with a beautiful myth about the origin of asters: once at the end of August, the goddess of spring Persephone, who was to return to the underground, bleak kingdom of Hades with the onset of autumn, looked down from the sky to the ground. She saw a couple in love who exchanged love vows in the dark of night. Persephone became bitter because she was not given love, but destined to spend half her life in a dark kingdom, and she wept. Her tears star dust fell to the ground and turned into asters. Since then, aster is a symbol that in Greek mythology is associated with Persephone and her mother Demeter, the goddess of fertility.
