Do You Know......

in #photo7 years ago (edited)

The owner of this photo is a Serbian student named "Gavrilo Principev" who was rejected when he wanted to join the Serbian Army because of his shortness. He wanted to prove his courage. In the same year he assassinated the Prince of Austria (Archduke Franz Ferdinand) and his wife during their visit to Sarajevo in 28 June 1914. Which led to:

  • Austria declared war on Serbia.
  • Russia was angry and declared war on Austria.
  • Russia's declaration of war against Austria led to Germany's anger and declared war on Russia.
  • France was angered from Germany and declared war on it.
  • Germany went to fight France, and entered the territory of Belgium.
  • Belgium and Britain were angered from Germany and declared war on it.
  • The Ottoman Empire was angered because of their attack on Germany and declared war on everyone.
  • America, Italy, Greece, Romania and Portugal were angered from the Ottomans and declared war on the Ottoman Empire.
  • The First World War broke out in 1914, killing more than 16 million people, 8 million missing, and twenty million wounded.

All of this because of this crazy...!!!!

I am a bit of a history buff, but I have always fancied WWII. I have always found WWI to be much more difficult to understand in the context of everything. The way you laid everything out is probably the best explanation of WWI I've ever read even though it is extremely simple.

I also had no idea the same man kill Ferdinand's wife.

The era before WWI started was probably the most beautiful architecturally. The few videos you can see from that time period are always beautiful and captivating to me.

I always felt Kaiser Wilhelm II on film had this magnificence to him with his cape and imposing helmet and large mustache. Franz and his wife were also really elegant looking people. It's hard to imagine such a beautiful society from an outside perspective could fall into such disarray.

I'm going to follow you on Steemit!

thank you dear ...it's honor for me to be my follower...i'll follow you too

The war would have inevitably happened even if Princip didn’t kill Franz Ferdinand. The tension and military buildup among the powers was too high. The assassination was a convenient excuse to start it all.

Also Princip missed his chance to kill FF, but the car took a wrong route and Princip got another chance.

thank you dear for this information....you are completely right this war was preceedingly planned
