We are buying timed stuff, and you probably dont know that!
You probably do not know this, but we are in an era where products are made to last for some time until the manufacturer determines that it lasts. Do not believe? I can give examples, an iphone, for example, is made by engineers who design it to last from 3 months to 1 year, things like creating screens weak on purpose, designing the battery to last a few cycles, launch new software specially made to worsen the performance of non-current models, forcing developers to launch applications only for the new IOS, among many worse things.
Another example is playstation, makes a video game made to last a little over a year, creates new controls with weakened triggers to last less, making people buy more controls, worsen the graphics in previous versions of their video games, such as ps3 sell the ps4, ban the online crossplay on behalf of sales.
The latest example is today's smartphones, 99% of brands make phones with weak-purpose displays, languor and purposeful crashes, with overheating that diminishes useful life, as was the case of galaxy note 7 that was purposely made to overheat and last little, but it seems they have gone too far in greed to make the phone more disposable as possible
Seeing these three cases, we can conclude that, in fact, we are buying timed things, made to use for a specified time, that soon will be discarded like a disposable cup
