Nothing And Then Birth?

One of my first questions is a question we all asked our parents and thats where did I come from? Im sure we have all heard the birds and the bee's story. The underlying thoughts behind that question are much more concerning Then procreation. I didn't want to know the physical proccess of concieving a child, I wanted to know were I was before I was in a physiscal body.
were we nothing before birth?
