You Don't Have to Love Your Job. You Can Hate It As Well.

in #philosophy6 years ago

I hate all the inspirational stuff you can find online or in any bullshit seminar of some random influencer. Why? Because it is deceiving and I don't think that people who tell that stuff even realize what it means. One of my favorite pseudo-phrases is "You have to love your job." No, you don't. Your job is here for an income. You don't have to love it. Actually, I doubt that you can love it. You can bare it but never love it.

And people, especially those inpatient millennials, get depressed these days when they realize that they don't love their job. They think that they are doing things wrong. That's when they quit their jobs and start some random "find your inner-self" journey because they know that their parents will never let them starve. "Why should I work if I don't love my job?" those people ask. Well, for starters, because you ended up on this wonderfully stupid planet, where things don't necessarily always are the way you like.

And people don't understand that any job gets boring in time. And more importantly, any job requires to put in some efforts (I hate this fact as well). And this "you have to love your job" theory is nothing more than an excuse to be lazy and never work in my eyes. It is also an excuse to be depressed and hate your life. And we reach the situation when Jane thinks that Jack is living his dream, working all day but with a huge smile on his face because work is like a holiday for him. And Jack thinks the same about Jane. And no one is happy. Everyone is depressed.

My secret rule is to never overthink about what you do for a living. That tells nothing about you and that means nothing to your well-being. The purpose of any job is to provide a chance to pursue your real dreams and goals. And those dreams and goals are what matters. Not your job. You can hate your job all you want if you come back home and you are doing everything to achieve your dream.

So don't ever love your job because it doesn't deserve your love. Try not to hate it as well because it is no good for hating. Just let it be. Just let it pass. And live your life to the fullest, concentrating on things that really matter.

Of course, try to get as much comfort from your job as you can. It should not drain all your energy as well. So that's my advice - don't give a shit about your job and don't let it mess with your head. And never love it because love only makes things complicated!
