RE: Nothingness: IT from Bit [Original Content for Steem]

Nice :-) I will have to read it one more time when I am not at work.

Speaking about nothingness, I had a few insights into it when meditating. Nothingness didn't seem to be really nothing, but rather the space of infinite possibilities. When no form exists, the potential for any form to arise is infinite. No form exists, but you can feel the potential for creating anything and the moment that this is going to happen is infinitely close. You feel like it is impossible to stay at such a high level of potential without actually creating anything. Well, perhaps this is how it was. The energy was too high and unstable so it needed to create all the forms we know. Perhaps it wanted to experience itself, because there was something missing. Potential for all forms is not the same as all the forms actually existing. In any case, this experience of a space bursting with infinite energy of life was strong.

But this could be more like a topic for a standalone post.

Exactly! I think that's the kind of experience that can help us understand these fundemental issues. It may seems strange to suppose that formlessness is dependent on form, and actuality on potentiality, but really without presupposing their interdependence we'd create a gap so deep no amount of thought could bridge it. It is easy to say of Descartes distinction between the mental (res cogitans) and the material (res extensa) that he was a misguided dualist for creating an unbridgable gap, but we're still in his shadow, and as we cut away his bridge (God), we are left essentially with the same explanatory gap people tend to criticize him for. The pietists have tried to suffer in silence, and the obscurantists are worshipping idols without reason. We need to keep the best from the tradition of explanatory unity while updating it to a Godless view compatible with science and reason.

You might enjoy reading a comment of mine under a different story :-)

What is a Godless view?

Not related to the comment, but I would also like to say that basically every time you decide to choose one side of any duality you are missing the big picture. It is definitely worth it to study both sides, or all sides in general, but one should never get caught in any side too much. Because by definition no side the whole picture :-)

By godless I simply mean that nothing actual can be necessary.
