How to ease suffering

We will all die. This is guaranteed. The afterlife however is not guaranteed. This is something we all inherently know and feel but somehow fail to be aware of consistently. For if we were constantly aware of this, we'd live our lives with gratitude. Personally, it seems as though most people are suffering from their ignorant desires and lack of gratitude. The desire to have things that others have such as riches, luxury material possessions, or influential social position. These desires are the direct cause of most suffering. It usually leads to negative self-talk that most engage in when they compare themselves to someone better off. It is rooted in that focus on the better off others instead of themselves. Focus on what you do have and relate that to those that do not have. For example, in my days of depression and suicidal ideation, I tried to focus on the good in my life. I have a home, a family, and food readily available. There are those in the world who have lost their families and are entirely alone. There are those who have even seen their families slaughtered in front of their eyes. There are those who are currently starving. I have no right to be saddened by my position in life because it is one that is blessed. Even if there are others in the world who live lives better than mine, I shall not take my position for granted because there are others who would kill to be where I am.
