What’s all the controversy?

Okay, this should be a fun little experiment. I will post a statement, and you get to decide whether or not the statement is true, false, or somewheres in-between.

STATEMENT: "Contrived attempts to impose artificial equality for members of a particular group, may result in disparity for individuals outside of the group."

TRUE -or- FALSE?

With a marker: circle the correct answer above that best represents your view.

Bonus questions:

  • Do we have enough people with down-syndrome in the armed forces?
  • Is Hollywood persecuting people of the Jedi faith?
  • Do basketball teams have too many privileged black males?
  • Is the logging industry discriminating against hermaphrodites?

If you said yes or no, leave a comment down below explaining your answer.

Would have loved to answer, but am presently on night call, so am fatigued and can't reason out the answer.

It's true, it may do that, likely so at first. But.... imposed artificial equality will not give the in-group an equality advantage in the long run over the out group. That is because the rights of all are dismantled by dismantling the rights of a few for the benefit of a small minority, if we look at it as a temporal progression.

It's like a pacifier for the minority that yells most loudly while heavily underrepresentated in terms of numbers. So everyone outside of that minority takes a hit to their rights, until nobody is left to protest the deciders finally taking away the rights of the previously privileged group in the end.

I have learnt to not be too pissed about the people whose worldview I have left behind me. Because I was privileged to experience situations where those kinds of people were exactly the ones who saved the day for everyone in the end. Quite unintentionally often times ;)

Well said! free hyperlink

I was being a bit flippant in most of this post, I guess the only serious part was the question that I posed that you answered very well. Thankfully, and I'm just hoping that this is the case, that no one actually circled true or false on their screen.

Reading my answer again it actually feels a bit smart-ass'y. ahahaha. no need for a new screen at this time, but thanks anyway!

Didn't come off smart-ass'y at all to me, just very well thought out!

True, because the statement uses the word "may" which could mean that second part of the statement does not necessarily need to be true.

In regards to identity politics, investing one's identity in characteristics completely out of the control of the individual is a pointless exercise that is used to herd the left sheep into one corral and the right sheep into another. When one uses such characteristics as a means of creating group identity they aren't really helping anyone.

Thanks for stopping by @greer184. I think if there is a winner you are it! This post was mostly done in jest but a deal is a deal! Here is your free hyperlink to a quality discounted monitor! I especially liked your point calling out the shenanigans on the identity politics, well played Sir, well played!
